Stralsund: activities
The
twin cities celebrated the opening of the borders within Germany with a grand
journey of citizens from Kiel to Stralsund. After the first free elections in
the “new” federal states in Eastern Germany, Kiel was able to help set up the
new Stralsund city administration, sending local government staff to the twin
city. Colleagues came from the authorities in Stralsund to Kiel, to receive
specialist advice in the offices of Kiel’s administration.
The contacts between the cities, and the personal friendships from a decade
and a half of partnership continue. Visits also take place outside the official
occasions of the Kieler Woche or the Stralsund International Cities Meeting.
