Kiel - Sovetsk:
the twin-city partnership
On
18 June 1992, the cities of Sovetsk (formerly Tilsit) and Kiel signed their
partnership agreement.
There were already good relationships with Sovetsk via the “Stadtgemeinschaft
Tilsit” (Tilsit City Community), based in Kiel. Through the Community, former
residents of Tilsit keep up contacts with their old home city and show an impressive
commitment to the development of the present-day city of Sovetsk.
The agreement between Sovetsk and Kiel envisages an exchange of experience and
a broad-based municipal collaboration between the two cities. It is intended
that promoting friendly relations between the people of the twin cities will
contribute towards international understanding.
