Some
facts about the city of Stralsund
With
its population of around 60,000 inhabitants, the old Hanseatic City of Stralsund
is the largest city in Western Pomerania and lies on the Strelasund, the straits
between the island of Rügen and the mainland.
With its historic townscape, Stralsund is an impressive tourist destination
on the Baltic coast. The old town, which has been accorded protected heritage
status by UNESCO, has a unique buildings.
Stralsund is also a traditional seaport and dockyard city. Besides
tourism and shipbuilding, the most important branches of industry are services,
crafts, construction, metal and wood processing and foodstuffs.
