Some facts about the city of Vaasa

Vaasa, the sunniest city in Finland, lies on the western coast of the country, and is a small but international major city with around 57,000 inhabitants. A quarter of the city’s population belong to the Swedish minority in Finland.

Kiel’s twin city is Eastern Bothnia’s gateway to the west, the educational centre of the region with several higher education institutions and the second-largest commercial centre in Finland. The port and the airport are important both for tourism and also for cargo handling. Industry has a long tradition in Vaasa. Among other things, it was in Vaasa that the first automobile in Finland was built.
