From kindergarten via schools and universities through to is vocational training centre (Berufliches Bildungszentrum): Kiel is committed to lifelong learning and has the best conditions to provide this. In addition to all types of schools, Kiel has four universities (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Kiel University of Applied Sciences, Duale Hochschule Schleswig-Holstein), as well as various institutes of further education.
As a university city, Kiel is also home to a range of outstanding scientific research institutions - such as the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, the renowned Kiel Institute for the World Economy or the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, which is one of Europe’s leading marine research institutions.
The adult education centre Förde-vhs and Musikschule Kiel offer a broad range of educational and leisure opportunities for those living in Kiel. The city’s sailing camp on Kiellinie is unique in Germany. For many years now, this camp has given children and young people the chance to learn how to sail.
